1) 2017 Beginners Retreat. This is our first retreat of the year. We encourage all new people and continuing members to attend. Coming to a one-day monthly retreat is a great way to improve one’s practice. Seeing how calm and clear our mind can become in one day inspires us to practice regularly and deeply.
This retreat usually fills up very quickly. We encourage you to sign up ASAP to reserve a spot. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Pre-Registration is required. Please contact Xiankuan Don: firstname.lastname@example.org to pre-register. As always, all teachings are free and open to the public. Donations to MABA are welcome. Overnight stays are available by reservation. $35 minimum donation is suggested for one-day retreats. Online donations can be made through: www.maba-usa.org
2) MABA has a new Study Group beginning on April 16th at 9:00 am. We will be working with the Dhammapada. The Dhammapada is one of the Buddha’s teachings in verse, and is one of the best-loved and most widely used of the Buddha’s teachings among lay people in Asia. This course is suitable whether you are completely new to the Dharma, or have some experience with buddhism.
Bhikkhu Bodhi says of the Dhammapada, “The Dhammapada is the best known and most widely esteemed text in…Buddhism…its popularity has raised it far above the single niche it occupies in the scriptures to the ranks of a world religious classic…this slim anthology of verses constitutes a perfect compendium of the Buddha’s teaching, comprising between its covers all the essential principles elaborated at length in the forty-odd volumes of the Pali canon.”
Class meets at 9:00am upstairs in the Meditation Hall.
